Recently, I spent a beautiful, summer day of plein air painting along the world famous Big Wood River in Sun Valley, Idaho.
Scroll down below for a quick little Instagram video of my plein air painting set-up. Plein air painting is a term for painting outside in the fresh air. When painting outside, the artist must work quickly because the light and weather changes quickly. I like to keep my supplies down to a minimum. It’s important for me to use a lightweight, yet stable pochade box which is a portable easel.
I have quite a few different pochade box easels. But for this day, I chose my handy and hardy Strada Easel. This easel is a favorite and was the perfect choice for quickly setting up and painting along the Big Wood River. You can read my review here > On The Go With Strada Easel
To make my outdoor painting life even more simple, I always paint with Cobra solvent-free oils, water mixable paints! On this day, I even used the water directly from the Big Wood River! I like to infuse my plein air paintings with the local water.
I hope you enjoy seeing my beautiful Idaho plein air painting day…

Putting the finishing touches on today’s first plein air painting of the week! I’m painting along the Bigwood River in Sun Valley, Idaho! I painted this with my Cobra solvent-free oils on Fredrix linen with the Aspen brushes I helped develop with Princeton Brush Company using my Strada Easel. 😃 Come see my paintings and say hello @kneelandgallery Friday night at Gallery Walk 😃 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #pleinair #pleinairartist #pleinairpainting #outdoorart #landscapepainting #paintingart #river #artistsoninstagram #stradaeasel #princetonbrushes #lorimcnee #paintoutside #getoutside #oilpainting #sunvalley #solventfreewithlorimcnee #solventfree #cobraoil #idahoartist #idahome #riverart #riverpainting ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
