My newest still life painting, "First Signs of Spring" is currently on display in the 'Icons of the West" invitational exhibition at Dana Gallery in Missoula, Montana. My Week with Master Landscape Artist, Michael Workman

sedona

Last week, I had the rare opportunity to attend an advanced painting workshop at the Sedona Arts Center in Arizona with master landscape painter, Michael Workman. I was very excited about this experience because I have admired this elusive artist's work for many years, plus Michael is an 'artist's-artist', and one of the greatest landscape painters of our time. I was interested in learning how Michael 'deconstructs' his paintings and … [Read more...]

On My Easel #2: The Challenge of Painting the Illusion of Blown Glass

still life painting with bohemian waxwing bird and hand blown glass vase

Painting the illusion of a glass vase can be challenging for the artist, however recreating a 'blown glass' vessel in paint is even more complex. Collecting unique vases and objects along the way is one of the fun parts of being a still life painter. I bought the vase in this photo at the Sun Valley Arts and Crafts Festival many years ago. This delicate, hand-blown glass vase has been sitting on my shelf, gathering dust, for all these … [Read more...]
