WELCOME!
This blog is for me to share what I’ve learned during my 25 years of being a professional artist. My name is Lori McNee and I will be sharing tips, techniques, trade secrets, art biz info, how to instruction, inspiring interviews and more.
I am a professional artist. I paint landscape, still life, plein air and wildlife oil paintings.
I have been drawing since I was a child and I studied art in college, but I consider myself self-taught.
Why???
Because no one taught traditional painting in college! All my professors were Modernists except for my drawing teacher, Irina Gronborg, www.irinagronborg.com. Her detailed botanical drawings inspired me and she also taught me how to see positive and negative shapes. But, it was not until I was a young mother that I continued my solo quest for traditional painting techniques.
The phrase “self-taught” is a bit deceiving because I couldn’t have really done it on my own. I learned a lot books, videos, workshops and private lessons. I’ve had the opportunity to meet interesting people and places and work with some of the most gifted artists alive today! Below are a few!
(me with landscape artist Scott Christensen, wildlife artists Suzie & John Seerey-Lester, plein air artist Matt Smith, wildlife artist Daniel Smith – we were at our Trailside Gallery artists’ reception in Jackson Hole, Wy.)
Having said that, I know many fine art tips and techniques secrets of the pros. In the posts to come I will be sharing them with you! My works and I have been featured on both tv and in national magazines, museums and galleries.
(me at ’07 Art in Miniature @ the Gilcrease Museum)
My goal in creating this blog is to both educate and enhance my readers’ lives while sharing my passion for tradition art with others. I have lots of ideas and can’t wait to get started. I hope you enjoy this blog and share it with other art enthusiasts!
